1931年加入明月歌舞团，因演唱歌曲《民族之光》而受到关注。1932年发行个人首张唱片《特别快车》 。1934年凭借歌曲《五月的风》成名 ；同年她在上海《大晚报》举办的“广播歌星竞选”中名列第二 。1935年进入电影圈。1937年主演的剧情片《马路天使》成为其表演生涯的代表作，而她演唱的影片插曲《天涯歌女》、《四季歌》亦在华人地区流行 。1938年签约上海国华影业公司。1941年《上海日报》举办“电影皇后”评选，周璇在当选后婉拒了“电影皇后”的荣誉。
1946年赴香港发展。1947年主演爱情片《长相思》，由她演唱的影片插曲《夜上海》成为华语歌坛的代表作品之一 。1950年从香港返回上海。1951年因突发精神病而被送入医院治疗。1957年9月22日，在上海病逝。1995年获得中国电影世纪奖女演员奖 。
Zhou Xuan (August 1, 1920 -- September 22, 1957) was a Chinese film actress and singer born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.
In 1931, she joined the Bright Moon Song and Dance Troupe and gained attention by singing the song "National Light". In 1932, he released his first record, Special Express. Rose to fame in 1934 with the song "The Winds of May"; In the same year, she won the second place in the "radio Star contest" held by Shanghai Newspaper Da Wanbao. He entered the film industry in 1935. In 1937, she starred in the feature film Road Angel, which became the representative work of her acting career, and her film episodes Tianya Singer and Song of the Four Seasons were also popular in Chinese areas. In 1938, he signed a contract with Shanghai Guohua Film Company. In 1941, Shanghai Daily held a "movie Queen" contest, zhou xuan refused the honor after being elected.
1946 went to Hong Kong development. In 1947, she starred in the romantic film "Everlasting Love", and her song "Night Shanghai" became one of the representative works in the Chinese music circle. He returned to Shanghai from Hong Kong in 1950. He was hospitalized in 1951 for a sudden mental illness. On September 22, 1957, he died in Shanghai. She won the Chinese Film Century Award for Actress in 1995.
