炭画古已有之，而把透视、比例、光影以及中国工笔画虎撕毛的传统技法融为一体，创作出黑白相间的炭精虎画作品，杜中永为第一人。
杜中永，号涂虎堂主人，山东青州人，生于1962年，现为中国工艺美协会员。他以炭精画虎为专长，在绘画中大胆创新，融汇传统与西方绘画技法，风格独特，自成一家。
炭精画是我国古老的民间艺术，是以炭精粉作为颜料，以擦笔、药棉、橡皮等为绘画工具的一种特殊绘画形式，来源于国画，又区别于国画。作为绘画艺术，炭精画打破了素描所具有的线条排铺明暗调子，在写实性上更优于调剂、调水、颜料的表现效果，尤其是强烈的立体感、丰富的色调层次、细腻逼真的表现效果，在艺术表达方式上独树一帜。
杜中永在以炭精画虎时，使用中国传统宣纸，用扁头水粉笔寸擦寸涂，用棉花球过渡色调，用橡皮处理须毛和眼睛，使他画出来的虎立体感强、栩栩如生、霸气入神，再用定画液喷洒固定画面，可永久性保存和收藏。

Du zhongyong, also known as tu hutang, was born in qingzhou, shandong province in 1962. He specializes in charcoal painting tiger, bold innovation in painting, blending traditional and western painting techniques, unique style, its own.
Carbon painting is an ancient folk art in China. It is a special painting form with carbon powder as pigment and brush, cotton wool and rubber as painting tools. It comes from and differs from traditional Chinese painting. As a painting art, charcoal painting breaks the light and shade tone of the line arrangement that sketch has, and is better than the expression effect of adjustment, water transfer and pigment in realism, especially the strong three-dimensional feeling, rich tonal level, delicate and realistic expression effect, which is unique in the way of artistic expression.
