自画像:从真像到真相的自我救赎

Self-portrait: self-redemption from truth to truth


就对人的认知而言,没有比自己更了解自己的人了。在多重人格、多副面具的粉饰和掩盖下,个体的自然人总会被群体的社会人同化或异化成虚假的成像。

窃以为自画像是艺术家自我认知、自我表达乃至自我救赎的艺术呈现。自画像与自我的肉身行为是艺术家灵与肉的不同方式的展陈。

自画像作为肖像画的一种,早已不是或不仅限于是古典肖像绘画的艺术价值和审美标准。

放眼于世界艺术史的背景和视野中,探讨自画像的艺术魅力和力量,不得不提荷兰的艺术大师梵高和伦勃朗。

至少在我看来,后印象派大师梵高最打动我的作品,不是星空,不是向日葵,而是《割掉耳朵后的自画像》。史料说这件创作于1889年1月作品,是在他“割耳朵事件”发生一个多月之后。此刻,画家已找到了他内心的自我平衡,是梵高当时在阿尔勒的精神状态下的自画像。梵高在描绘自己时,敢于剖析,毫不掩饰地揭示出他性格中最令人感到意外,却又是最为动人的一面。

与梵高不同,同样出生在荷兰的伦勃朗应该算是最喜欢画自画像的艺术家。伦勃朗的自画像贯穿了他的一生,从少年开始,到中年,再到去世的那一年,几乎每一年他都有一幅画自己肖像的作品出现。伦勃朗通过自画像展现自己内心世界,将自己经历的不同事情在自画像中表现出来,尤其是晚年的自画像可谓五味杂陈揉会其中。在艺术技法上,伦勃朗借助光影、颜色、笔触的把握,形成自己独特艺术语言,用自画像传达和流露自己内心的精神。伦勃朗的每一张自像画都记录了这位顶级艺术家的人生历程和艺术生命。

话题切换到当下,魏野先生发起的艺术家自画像论坛,其积极的现实意义在于,艺术家作为社会人中的自然人,如何用艺术的方式和语言,认知自己,反思自己,救赎自己,并以己及人地认知、反思、救赎当下的社会人。

自画像不是画一个真像的自己,而是画一个真相的自己。像是表象,相才是真相。

人类的救赎只有从真正认识自己开始。艺术家认知自己就该从自画像开始。


As far as human cognition is concerned, there is no one who knows himself better than himself. Under the disguise of multiple personalities and masks, individual natural persons are always assimilated or alienated into false images.

I think self-portrait is the artistic presentation of the artist's self-cognition, self-expression and even self-redemption. Self-portrait and the physical behavior of the self are different ways of the artist's expression of spirit and flesh.

As a kind of portrait painting, self-portrait is no longer the artistic value and aesthetic standard of classical portrait painting.

Looking at the background and perspective of world art history, discussing the artistic charm and power of self-portrait, we have to mention the Dutch art masters van gogh and Rembrandt.

In my opinion, at least, the most moving work of the post-impressionist master van gogh is not the starry sky or the sunflower, but the self-portrait after cutting off the ear. Sources say the work was made in January 1889, more than a month after his "ear-cutting" incident. By now, the painter had found his inner balance, a self-portrait of van gogh in arles's state of mind. When van gogh painted himself, he dared to dissect, revealing the most surprising but also the most moving aspects of his character.

Unlike van gogh, Rembrandt, who was also born in the Netherlands, is probably one of his favorite artists to paint self-portraits. Rembrandt's self-portraits ran through his life, from adolescence to middle age to the year of his death, and almost every year a portrait of himself appeared. Rembrandt showed his inner world through self-portrait, and expressed his different experiences in self-portrait, especially in the self-portrait of his later years. In terms of artistic techniques, Rembrandt used light, shadow, color and brush strokes to form his own unique artistic language, and used self-portraits to convey and reveal his inner spirit. Every self-portrait of Rembrandt records the life course and artistic life of this top artist.

When the topic switches to the present, the positive practical significance of the self-portrait forum for artists initiated by Mr. Wei ye lies in how artists, as natural persons in the society, can use artistic methods and language to recognize, reflect on and redeem themselves, and to recognize, reflect on and redeem the current society.

A self-portrait is not a picture of who you really are, but a picture of who you really are. Like appearances, appearances are the truth.

The salvation of man begins only with a true knowledge of himself. Artists should start from self-portraits when they know themselves.
